Why a Commitment Ceremony?

We decided to "get married" for several reasons. First, we plan to be together, support each other, and pass through life as a couple forever. We believe it is important to make vows to each other and the "ritual of the wedding" is an important passage as a couple.

Second, we believe it is important to pass through the "ritual of wedding" with your family and friends. We want them to support us and recognize us as a unit and a committed couple and not just two people that are dating. The ritual of the wedding crosses the line and doing it with our family and friends we felt was important.

Third, we believe we should have the political rights associated with marriage. There are two components--the civil and the religious. Churches are free to do as they wish but we believe the government should recognize our union as they do the ones between a man and woman. We should receive all the rights that married people receive and we should also have the same responsibilities.
